Rocket 88 is a Rockin’ Rockabilly trio that features
Matt Murphy on guitar
and lead vocals, Rob Perl on standup bass and vocals, and
Gene Sutch on drums
and vocals.
Matt Murphy was raised by a bluegrass/old-time family and plays Rock,
Rockabilly, Bluegrass, and Folk. He recorded three CDs of country, rock and folk
songs. Matt was the lead singer/guitarist for Strange Creek, a band that played
in venues throughout the DC/MD/VA area.
Rob Perl plays stand-up bass and has been a professional musician for over 20
years. Rob is a native New Yorker who grew up in the New York Music Scene, but
relocated to DC. He has worked with The Inkspots, Del Shannon, The Shangri-Las,
The Elegants (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Members), as well as members of
The Stray
Cats, Santana, Steely Dan, The Blackbyrds, Mongo Santamaria, Blood, Sweat and
Tears, Spyrogyra, and a myriad of Doo Wop groups. Rob currently plays Contrabass
in The Elegy String Orchestra, as well as
Chamber Music at Chevy Chase, and
leads The Eastman Jazz Groups.
Gene Sutch played in rock and punk rock bands in the New York City area in clubs
like CBGBs, and Max's Kansas City. He is an energetic drummer and vocalist who
played drums and sang in the DC area venues for Standard Deviation and
Strange
Creek.
